vivo Vision mixed reality headset unveiled in China

Say hello to vivo Vision – a new mixed reality (MR) headset that made its debut at the Boao Forum for Asia. A prototype was demonstrated at the vivo booth, with the final device anticipated for release in mid-2025.

The company stated that the introduction of vivo Vision is part of a strategy to “strengthen its real-time spatial computing capabilities for future applications in consumer robotics.”

The event also saw more cutting-edge innovations like 6G advancement and the upcoming X20 Ultra smartphone.

During a “vivo Release Moment” session held today, Hu Baishan, Executive VP and COO of vivo, said that the mobile phone industry is a “microcosm” of China’s tech innovation. The official pointed out that vivo has been the number one domestic mobile phone brand for the past four years, and serves over 500 million users in 60 markets.

The Boao Forum for Asia, often referred to as the “Asian Davos,” is an event initiated by two dozen Asian countries where leaders from government, business, and academia discuss their vision on the most pressing issues facing the region.

During the forum, vivo also announced the establishment of a Robotics Laboratory, a new strategic innovation path the company intends to pursue. The plan is for vivo to develop the “brain” and “eyes” of robots there, utilizing its experience in areas such as AI LLMs and imaging, along with the spatial computing capabilities it will gain through vivo Vision.

The knowledge, gathered with the MR will be combined with vivo’s Blue Technology Matrix (BlueImage, BlueLM, BlueOS, BlueChip and BlueVolt), which is a set of AI-driven models, to “bring technology out of the laboratory and into users’ everyday lives.
