Oppo F29 and F29 Pro announced with durable bodies, big batteries

Oppo introduced two new phones in India today – F29 and F29 Pro. The mid-range duo comes come with 5G connectivity, extra durable bodies and huge batteries.

They are not entirely new – they are identical to the A5 and A5 Pro, available in China. The F29 duo is up for pre-order in India, with first sale scheduled in the next ten days.

The key selling point of the F29 is its durability. It is IP69, IP68, and IP66-certified for water immersion and water sprays. Since that only covers fresh water, Oppo says it went the extra mile and made the phone resistant to 18 different liquids, including coconut water, sports drinks, dishwasher and even windshield washer fluid.

The F29 5G is also designed to function for up to 4 hours in temperatures as low as -35 degrees Celsius.

The Oppo F29 is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset and sports a 6.7″ AMOLED panel at the front with Full HD+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. The selfie camera is 8 MP, sitting inside a punch hole.

Around the back you get a 50 MP main shooter and a 2 MP monochrome lens of little utility.

Oppo F29 has a 6,500 mAh battery that supports 45W SuperVOOC fast wired charging. It is just 7.7 mm thick and weights only 185 grams. The company says it used an ultra-strong aluminum alloy motherboard, reinforced diamond-cut corners, and a Gorilla Glass 7i protection at the front to make sure it’s still tough despite this.

The phone boots ColorOS 15 with Android 15 underneath, and offers some AI features, such as Clarity Enhancer, Eraser, Reflection Remover and Unblur of images with moving objects.

Oppo F29 5G comes in Solid Purple or Glacier Blue colors. It costs INR 23,999 ($280/€255) for 8/128 GB and INR 25,999 ($300/€280) 8/256 GB, with shipments scheduled for March 27.

The F29 Pro runs the same software in a similarly compact body.

What makes it more premium is the quad-curved screen and the even tougher build. There’s additional MIL-STD-810H certification, guaranteeing its resistance to mold, solar radiation and ice accumulation.

At the front there’s a 6.7″ AMOLED, protected by a stronger Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It also has a better selfie camera than the F29, with a 16 MP sensor.

The chipset here is Mediatek Dimensity 7300, coupled with either 8 GB or 12 GB RAM. The main camera setup is unchanged though with a 50 MP main shooter, coupled with a 2 MP monochrome sensor.

Oppo F29 Pro has a 6,000 mAh battery that supports up to 80W SuperVOOC charging. The company said 20 minutes are enough to fill 45% of the battery, and charging works even in extreme weather.

Oppo F29 Pro is up for pre-order in Marble White or Granite Black color. Prices are INR 27,999 ($325/€300) for 8/128 GB, INR 29,999 ($350/€320) for 8/256 GB, and INR 31,999 ($370/€340) for 12/256 GB. Shipping is scheduled for April 1.
